UCF Cultural Center Renovation
University of Central Florida, Student Union Multicultural Student Center
During my tenure as the MSC coordinator, less than 90 days in, I was entrusted with revamping the cultural center within a $40,000 budget. The UCF VP and AVP of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, along with student leaders on the President SAC committee, addressed campus needs, heightened awareness, and cultivated projects for solutions, and the Cultural Center was one of many.
The transformation was necessary because the Student Government office was previously located where the Cultural Center is now. At the time, the center was still locked and felt like SG remnants. Surveying UCF students and RSOs revealed a desire for a warmer, more vibrant space that distanced from the bureaucratic ambiance.
From inception to completion, I meticulously curated, designed, and integrated student feedback into the renovation process, emphasizing elements that would distinguish our space and entice cultural RSOs and UCF students. Collaborating extensively internally and externally, I spearheaded various projects, culminating in a comprehensive overhaul of the center.
The Re-grand opening took place on July 18th. It took about four months to complete, with much dedication. The staff, faculty, and students were amazed at the complete difference. My leaders were impressed with how well I was able to be very new to the job, take on this renovation project, board a new MSC E-board, and do the day-to-day duties of my role.
I’m proud to note the remarkable transformation of the Cultural Center, which experienced a surge from 18 to 37 RSOs, marking a vibrant and resourceful era post-renovation!
